**Short answer:** Enter your company's website and FileFunding reads public information only (DNS records, the website and the web archive) to show an indicative range of what your records could be worth to AI labs. Base ranges come from published buyer program pages; multipliers for status, systems, headcount, years and industry are our own simple assumptions. It's a rough indication, not an offer.

## What moves the number

**Status**: Active, winding down or closed. Closing companies can still license records, as long as they exist.

**Systems used**: Email, team chat, helpdesk, CRM, docs and code hosting. More systems usually means more useful records.

**People at peak**: Headcount at the busiest point, a proxy for how much work the records capture.

**Years of records**: Multi-year histories are worth more than a few months.

**Industry**: Process-heavy industries that are poorly covered by public data tend to be in more demand.

**Q: How does the free estimate work?**
You enter your company's website. We read public information only (DNS records, the website and the web archive) and show an indicative range in about 10 seconds. You can then confirm a few answers, such as which systems you used, headcount at peak and years of records, to tighten it. It's a rough indication, not an offer or a valuation.

**Q: Is the estimate an offer?**
No. It's an indicative range from public data points and a few answers you give. It is not an offer, an appraisal, or legal, tax or financial advice. Real offers depend on what's in the data and buyer demand at the time.

**Q: Do I need to upload anything or connect accounts?**
No. The estimate uses public information only. No passwords, uploads or payment are needed.

**Q: Why might my real number differ?**
The estimate can't see inside your systems. Volume, how much real work the records show, what has to be excluded, and which buyers are active all move the number. A short call and optional read-only stats firm it up.
